Ex-poacher killed in revenge

MANGALDAI, June 30 - One Meher Ali (50), a resident of Nalbari under Silbori outpost near the main entrance of the Orang National Park (ONP), a one-time hardcore poacher who had surrendered before the public way back in 2000 along with 24 others, was killed by three persons on Tuesday to take revenge for the murder of two persons 20 years ago.

The incident took place near the Silbori daily market on the June 28 evening. Ali, while he was about to return home by his car, was suddenly attacked by three persons with sharp weapons, causing serious injuries to him. The critically injured Meher Ali was immediately shifted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries there.

According to sources, Meher Ali, 20 years ago, had allegedly killed two villagers � Kasu alias Kasem Ali and Nur Islam.

The persons who attacked Meher Ali have been identified as Lokman, Sofiqul and Kalam of No.1 Kachari Bheti Top near the Park � all family members of Kasem and Nur Islam. They are absconding till the filling of this report, police said.
