NAGAON, Sept 19 - Former Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Nazneen Farooqui passed away following a cardiac arrest on September 17 at her residence at UR Road in Nagaon town. She was 66. Born on August 1, 1954, Farooqui served the All India Women�s Congress as general secretary and also as Nagaon district Congress president.
She was also a renowned sports organiser. She was nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2010 and served up to 2014. She contested once in the Lok Sabha election but lost.
APCC president Ripun Bora, former Congress minister Rokibul Hussain, former Congress MLA Durlav Chamua, BJP Sadar MLA Rupak Sarma, former minister Girindra Kumar Boruah, district Congress president Tapan Sarma and many local organisations condoled the demise.
Farooqui�s husband passed away a couple of years ago.
