SIVASAGAR, Aug 1 - Former MLA from Mahmora LAC and the BJP spokesman Sarat Kumar Saikia passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata today.
He was 71. He was suffering from kidney ailments for a long time.
Saikia leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.
Son of former Congress Minister Durgeswar Saikia, Sarat Saikia was born in Dumordolong TE near Moran.
He was associated with a host of socio-cultural organizations of undivided Sivasagar district.
He had joined the National Congress and got elected from Mahmora for three consecutive terms from 2001 to 2016.
When he was denied ticket in 2016, Saikia joined the BJP and was associated with the party till his death. His death was widely mourned in Sivasagar.
