Ex-MLA Constantine Lyngdoh no more

By The Assam Tribune

SHILLONG, Sept 19 - Former Meghalaya MLA Constantine Lyngdoh passed away at the Shillong Civil Hospital on Wednesday. Born in 1963, the one-time legislator had defeated former Chief Minister DD Lapang on his home turf, Nongpoh, in the 1993 Assembly elections, which earned him the sobriquet of giant killer.

Lyngdoh was a political greenhorn when he contested the polls on the ticket of Hill State Peoples Democratic Party. He defeated Lapang, a political heavyweight, by 1,095 votes. Lyngdoh had polled 7,474 votes as against Lapangs 6,379. It was an upset defeat for Lapang because prior to that election, Lapang had become the Chief Minister for the first time in 1992.

That was the only time Lapang, a four-time MLA, lost the seat. Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has expressed deep sorrow at Lyngdohs demise. Staff Correspondent
