Ex-minister in hospital ICU

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 30 - Deputy Leader of the Opposition and former Tripura PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury, one of the accused in the Rs 638.40-crore PWD scam, was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the GBP Hospital here today. Chowdhury was shifted there, moments after he was taken to the West Agartala PS from the ILS Hospitals here.

The former minister was readmitted to the hospital when his bail plea was being heard at the High Court of Tripura. After receiving inputs on Chowdhurys health condition, Justice Arindam Lodh concluded the hearing, but did not pass any order.

Chowdhury, who had undergone heart surgery twice, was admitted to the ILS Hospitals on October 17. Soon after he was lodged in the lockup of the West Agartala PS, Chowdhury complained of chest pain. The policemen immediately called a team of doctors, who recommended the ex-ministers hospitalisation. He was then rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Chowdhurys lawyer, Arindam Bhattacharjee, said the police took his client to the police station by violating all norms and legal provisions.
