Ex-Minister Chandra Prasad Doley passes away

MORIGAON, Aug 21 - Prasad Chandra Doley, a distinguished citizen of Morigaon district and a former Minister in the Keshab Gogoi Cabinet in 1982 breathed his last last night at his own residence at Dharamtul near here due to old-age ailments. He was 94.

A noted social worker involved with major organisations of Morigaon district, Prasad Chandra Doley�s death cast a pall of gloom in the entire central Assam.

Born at Santipur-Dharamtul village in Morigaon district in 1925, Prasad Chandra Doley graduated from Nagaon College in 1948. He started his carreer as an Assistant Teacher in Central Dharamtul High School. Later in 1977, Doley was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jagiroad constituency on a Janata Party ticket. Doley became the Minister of State (Independent) of Handloom and Sericulture in the Keshab Gogoi Ministry in 1982.

In 1983, he joined the Congress Party and was again elected as an MLA from Jagiroad constituency. He was the Chairman of the Assam Khadi and Gramodyog Board in 1981. He was the Chairman of Morigaon Mahkuma Parishad and Chairman of Morigaon Education Board. Later, he was also the president of the Morigaon Zila Sankardev Sangha. All the organisations where he was the president in the 1980s and 1990s in Morigaon district have mourned his demise and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He leaves behind his wife, one son, three daughters and a host of relatives.
