Ex-Karimganj Circle Officer in police net

SILCHAR, June 24 - Amid the ongoing arrests of persons allegedly involved in the multi-crore scam involving Land Ports Authority of India�s project at Sutarkandi in Karimganj district, police arrested Homen Gohain Baruah, a former circle officer at Karimganj on Monday.

He was produced before the court and sent on a two-day remand for interrogation.

According to the police, Baruah, who is officiating currently on the same post at Dergaon and two other officials, Subhash Das and Pranit Nath of the office who had been arrested earlier are allegedly involved in the scam to the tune of Rs 6 crore given by the Land Ports Authority of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs to purchase land for expansion of the Sutarkandi Trade Centre in Karimganj near the Indo-Bangla border.

Meanwhile, sources in the Karimganj district BJP informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was slated to attend and inaugurate the office building of the Land Ports Authority in the border town on June 26. But owing to the scam and subsequent arrests, the proceedings have been kept on hold.
