GUWAHATI, June 15 - Former Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and senior Congress leader Abir Patra passed away this morning at a city hospital due to kidney-related ailments.
Born on July 17, 1950, Patra had served as Mayor of GMC twice, including once between 2013 and 2016.
He was also Deputy Mayor of GMC once. Patra had served as president of the Guwahati Mahanagar Zila Congress Committee for many years.
He leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of other relatives.
He was unwell for some time and was admitted in the ICU of a private hospital.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condoled Patra�s death. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora also expressed his condolence over Patra�s demise.
