GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Kausar Jamil Hilaly, former State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Assam, has been conferred the Mphasis Universal Design Award, 2020, in the special jury category by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People for his commendable innovative work for persons with disabilities.
Holding the charge as State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Assam, between July 2018 and June 2020, Hilaly worked extensively on implementation of provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. He issued repeated written correspondences and notices that caused some positive movement in government departments to help persons with disabilities.
During the Covid-induced situation, he also ensured prompt assistance for distribution of dry ration and medicines to people with disabilities across the State.
He also ensured that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), National Health Mission (NHM) and DIPR produced government advisories and other publicity material on Covid-19 in accessible formats for visually and hearing impaired people.
He facilitated holding of classes through YouTube channels for students in the Guwahati Blind School and the BDS Government Deaf School.
