JORHAT, April 14 - Police here on Thursday arrested former Chairman of the Titabar Town Committee Abu Nasir Ahmed on charges of misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs 27 lakh during the period 2015-17.
A police source said that Ahmed, who was picked up on Wednesday night, was arrested under Sections 406, 420 and 409 of IPC in the case number 755/2018 registered in Jorhat Police Station recently.
The source said that Nabajyoti Das, a local resident had filed an FIR against Ahmed alleging that he (Ahmed) had misappropriated government funds by way of issuing self-cheques. Ahmed, who was produced in a judicial court here, was sent to police custody for five days.
