GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - As many as 20 former leaders and party men of AGP, BJP and Congress, including former Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Pulakesh Barua, former AGP MLA Anup Phukan, former student leader Bipul Das and former AGP leader Mahendra Talukder, today formally joined the newly-floated Asam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

The joining programme was held at the AJPs headquarters here in the presence of its convenors Basanta Deka and Krishna Gopal Bhattacharya and coordinator Adip Phukan.

After joining the AJP, Pulakesh Barua vowed that he would work to strengthen the base of the party in the State in the coming days. He also criticised both the BJP and AGP for their inability to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people of the State, asserting that to save the interests of Assamese people there is an urgent need to defeat the ruling BJP.

Former MLA Anup Phukan in his speech said the AGPs future is totally bleak and its existence is in danger because of the misdeeds committed by its leadership.

Addressing the gathering Basanta Deka informed that very soon AJP would form its committee in every Legislative Assembly Constituency of the State.
