Ex Assam Varsity VC becomes 1st person above 60 to get COVID-19 vaccine jab in Cachar

Along with the rest of the nation, COVID-19 vaccination for persons above 60 years of age got underway in Cachar district on Monday.
The vaccination drive held at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) saw good response from the beneficiaries. District Media Expert NHM Suman Choudhury informed that so far 44 persons have been vaccinated with shots of COVISHIELD vaccine and there has been no adverse effect noticed as yet. " We are happy to join the nation in the vaccination drive for persons above 60 years. Also some persons who are under 60 years but above 45 years having comorbidities have been vaccinated as well. We began the proceedings by vaccinating Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, the former vice chancellor of Assam University Silchar. His wife too got vaccinated," Choudhury informed.
SMCH principal Dr Babul Bezbaruah alongside his colleagues and ADC Sumit Sattawan welcomed all the beneficiaries with uttorio. DPM Cachar Rahul Ghose also attended the first session of the vaccination drive which is expected to continue till 5 pm at the hospital.

Sharing his reactions after being vaccinated, Prof Bhattacharjee expressed happiness saying " we have been waiting for this for a long time. Battle against COVID-19 has been a great challenge for the human race and our researchers in the medical domain and doctors have done a phenomenal job in coming out with vaccines for which we are all here today. I am happy to receive the first shot of the vaccine along with my wife and wish we get rid of the bad times soon."
