ITANAGAR, April 3 - Former Arunachal Pradesh minister Pasang Wangchuk Sona, father of State Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona, passed away at his Mechuka residence in Shi-Yomi district after prolonged illness this morning. He was 69 and is survived by three sons and a daughter.
Born in 1951 at Mechuka under erstwhile West Siang district, he completed his graduation from St Edmund�s College in Shillong. Sona was elected to the Second Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh in 1980 from Mechuka and became the Deputy Speaker.
During his second stint as an MLA, he held the post of the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board (1992-95). After being elected for the third time from the same seat in 1995, he served as the Minister of State for Mines and Minerals.
Meanwhile, Governor Brig Dr BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have condoled Sona�s demise and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
�Late Sona was an eminent social activist, who made immense contribution towards socio-economic development of the State in various capacities during his long and distinguished political career,� the Governor said.
