Ex-legislator Rahul submits nomination as independent candidate from Udharbond LAC

Silchar, March 11: In an interesting development, former MLA from Algapur constituency of Hailakandi district Rahul Roy has submitted nominations to contest in the Assembly election as an independent candidate from Udharbondh LAC of Cachar district.

On Wednesday, Roy, who had resigned from Congress party some time ago, submitted his nomination and said," I was reluctant to contest but people of Udharbond constituency invested their trust in me to see a much needed change of leadership to speak for their woes in the Assembly which is why I have submitted my nomination as an independent candidate."

Hurled by questions on his father Gautam Roy, who was an ex- Congress Minister and now a BJP candidate from Katigorah constituency, Roy said " we are two different individuals. Yeshe is my father and I respect him. But as politicians, he belongs to a different party whereas I don't belong to any party. I have come to contest to speak for the people of Udharbond who have been deprived over the past seven decades. Hopefully, with the support of the people, I will come out with flying colours."
