Eviction in Diphu market on cards

By Correspondent

DIPHU, July 10 - The overhauling process of Diphu town currently under way has reached the central part of the market area. The main challenge before the Revenue and Public Works Department is eviction of illegal construction that have been encroaching Government land.

In many cases it is found that the Revenue Department under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council has issued long-term periodic lease (miadi patta) to land occupiers by flouting all existing norms. Even PWD land has been encroached upon by private building owners and local town committee, not to mention illegally fabricated constructions.

The Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, who is working with missionary zeal to smarten up Diphu town in an unusual move on Sunday convened a meeting at Bikaner Mistan Bhandar Hotel, a heritage eating joint of the town, to discuss the roadside eviction issue commencing from Diphu Market to Matipung locality of the town.

The meeting resolved to take apart a number of constructions and to carry out eviction along the roadside from first Police Point (near Vishal Mart upto Matipung locality) immediately. The meeting also resolved that eviction will be carried out by PWD officials and Revenue Department jointly.

The meeting was attended by several KAAC leaders who included Executive Member Amarsing Tisso, MAC Ramsing Timung, principal secretary Mahananda Hazarika, Deputy Secretary Michael Timung, Additional Chief Engineer of PWD Pawan Terang, Executive Engineer of Water Resource Department Miji Kro, DFO Jagannath Rongpi, and officials of the PWD Department.
