JORABAT, Aug 31 - In a bid to clear encroachment over land meant for a drain, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration carried out its eviction drive for the second day today in 12th Mile area near Jorabat.

Todays drive was mostly related to digging of the drain to increase its water-bearing capacity to mitigate the impact of flash floods. The drive is expected to continue for a few more days.

Meanwhile, a moderate downpour today inundated the National Highway-37 in Jorabat affecting the residents, passersby and business establishments for a while.

Dibyajyoti Medhi, general secretary of the Kamrup Metro unit of AASU, said there was a need to construct a concrete drain and urged the authorities to clear the drain as per the map available with the department.
