JORABAT, Sept 1 - Acting heavily on encroachers, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration continued its eviction drive for the third day today in 14th Mile area near Byrnihat.

The administration is clearing out encroachment over land meant for the drain, as a lot of petty shops have come up above the drain obstructing the flow of water. Many factories have also encroached upon the area. Todays drive cleared around 50 shops. The excavators worked continuously to dig up the drain to increase its water-bearing capacity to mitigate the impact of flash floods.

People have also stressed the need to put up fencing so that no new encroachment takes place. The drive is expected to continue for a few more days until it reaches Byrnihat.
