Eviction drive conducted near Jorhat ISBT

By Correspondent

JORHAT, May 6 - Several tea stalls and grocery shops which were set up illegally in front of the Inter State Bus Terminus here were evicted by the district administration today as the owners of those temporary structures caused civic problems by littering the bus terminus campus and surrounding area.

Some of them were also involved in the illicit trade of liquor at night though they sold tea, snacks, foodstuff, cigarettes and a few other grocery items in the day time.

Incidents of liquor-induced scuffles were also reported frequently from the area during the last several months.

Interacting with this Correspondent, officials of the district administration said that the eviction drive was started in the area to restore peace and tranquility, besides maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in this public-frequented bus terminus.

Further, the district administration also sealed three brick factories near the Sukapha Samannay Kshetra at Mohbondha for violation of certain environmental norms and creating pollution.
