Eviction drive along Haflong feeder road

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, July 25 - In a bid to facilitate the construction of the Haflong-Jatinga feeder road, the Dima Hasao district administration and the Revenue Department of the NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) launched an eviction drive along the road in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Juri Phukan and the Additional Secretary, Revenue, Saindesh Ardao on Friday.

In the eviction drive, unauthorised structures along the road were demolished. It is learnt that a few months back, the Revenue Department had served notices to owners of these unauthorised structures. But they did not pay any heed to the notices, following which Fridays eviction drive was launched. The company engaged in the construction of the road has alleged that due to these illegal structures, work is getting delayed.

It may be mentioned here that the construction of the Haflong-Jatinga road started three years back, but due to several reasons, the construction has not been completed due to which the people of Dima Hasao have been suffering a lot since long.

The Additional Secretary of Revenue, NCHAC, Saindesh Ardao stated that all obstacles to the construction of the road have been removed to ensure the early completion of the road.

The Dima Hasao DC, who supervised the eviction drive, said that even after the payment of compensation and the issue of notices from the Revenue Department, the people concerned did not remove their unauthorised structures. Therefore, it was necessary to launch an eviction drive to facilitate the construction of the road.
