By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, June 19 - Following a directive of the apex court, the Bongaigaon district administration has launched a fresh eviction drive to clear the lands of Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) in the district.

The eviction team evicted a total of 153 families, which have been encroaching 107 bighas of VGR land since the past 23 years, today at Hakodoba in Jogighopa area under Boitamari Revenue Circle in the district.

Balapara Gaon Panchayat, under which the evicted land falls, has been entrusted to look after the land where saplings were planted today to regrow the vegetation cover so that it can serve the purpose of a grazing reserve.

Bongaigaon Additional Superintendent of Police Amar Choudhury and Boitamari Revenue Circle Officer Partha Pratim Neog led the eviction team today. More such eviction will continue in the district to free the encroached VGR lands in the coming days too, district administration sources said.
