Every nation is fighting cancer: Dr Roymedhi

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Oct 7 - Every nation in the world is fighting cancer, said Dr Gitartha Roymedhi in a programme held at North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NECHRI) here today.

The speakers termed cancer a threat to the entire world for which every country is making policies and strategies to control the disease by promoting its prevention.

Dr Gitartha Roymedhi, who is in-charge of the Hospital Quality Control Management, Preventive Oncology, Social Healthcare Management and Medical Tourism of NECHRI, recently attended the World Cancer Congress 2018 that was hosted in Kuala Lumpur from October 1 to 4.

The congress was attended by over 3,000 delegates from 162 countries. The congress organised by the Union of International Cancer Control (UICC), Switzerland was a platform for various organisations from different parts of the world to meet, discuss, share ideas and establish strong networks to fight collectively against the diseases.

Every country has its own scenario of cancer. Besides treating the patients, we should build new policies and strategies so that we can motivate the common people to come forward for screening for any signs of cancer. It is a huge challenge for us to eliminate the fear of cancer. For this purpose, physicians and nurses need to act like educators too. This will be the only way to treat the disease at the initial stage, added Dr Roymedhi.

Dr Roymedhi also had the opportunity to share the cancer scenario of Assam with Dina Marif, the Princess of the Kingdom of Jordan, who was the former president of UICC. Dr Roymedhi was appreciated by the Princess for Mission Morigaon, an initiative of NECHRI for cancer screening and awareness by adopting a district to control the disease. The initiative is also supported by the National Cancer Society, Malaysia and the Nigerian Cancer Society.
