SILCHAR, Jan 19 - Ahead of the silver jubilee celebrations of Assam University Silchar slated to begin on January 21, the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students� Association�s central committee will organise a curtain raiser of the momentous occasion.

According to Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, chief advisor of the student body, the function will be held on January 20 at the District Library auditorium.

�We have made elaborate arrangements to mark the historic 25 years of journey of the university reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the people of Barak Valley and the State. The first vice-chancellor of the university Jayanta Bhushan Bhattacharjee will be present as the chief guest at the event.

Other vice-chancellors who have served the institution including the present vice-chancellor Prof Dilip Chandra Nath will attend the function and throw light on the journey of the university and share their views on the steps to be taken in the future for further improvement of the university. The event shall also include colourful cultural performances as well,� Rupam added.
