Eunuchs seek equal status

TINSUKIA, April 16 � Suffering from a feeling of deprivation while enjoying their fundamental right to live as normal human beings, members of the third gender (eunuchs) took out a rally here recently and demanded equal status with the other genders in society.

The rally, which started from Thana Chariali here, snaked its way through the old railway station via the GNB Road and Tinkonia AT Road with the participants holding placards demanding equal rights as citizens of India and the right to live as normal human beings, i.e., with dignity.

They were hopeful that the rally would contribute to generate awareness among the masses about the feelings of the third gender in society.

Rally staged: On the occasion of the National Conference of Brahmins at Parasuram Kunda in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh from April 10 to 12, members of the Brahmin Samaj of Tinsukia took out a rally through the main thoroughfares of the town recently.
