Erosion taking grim turn at Khumtai

By A Correspondent

GOLAGHAT, July 25 - Erosion by the Dhansiri river near Khumtai village of the district has taken a very threatening turn recently by gobbling up huge chunks of land near Butlikhuwa and other nearby areas.

The wearing away of land near the Dhansiri river has been disquieting the people of this region for a long time. Several acres of land of the people has been lost. The affected people had requested the Khumtai Circle Officer to look into the matter last year.

We especially the people of Butlikhuwa and the nearby areas have been incessantly suffering from the distressing effects of land erosion and have been losing our land since long and it is continuing. My family alone has lost almost five to six bighas of land due to the erosion. We had requested the Khumtai Circle Officer regarding the matter, but no proper action was witnessed. As a result of which we are suffering the same plight this year. We want the authority to take some immediate action to save the land of the people, said Prabin Saikia, a resident of Butlikhuwa.
