Erosion takes serious turn in Morigaon

MORIGAON, June 7 - Erosion of the Brahmaputra has taken a serious turn in Lahorighat�in Morigaon

as over 100 families have been affected so far.

According to official sources, three villages on the bank of Brahmaputra namely- Mikirgaon, Tulsibori and Kathoni were� partially eroded by the Brahmaputra rendering homeless to 100 families.

The homeless people are now taking shelter on the dyke and nearby highland. Meanwhile, Tulsibori LP school and one primary health centre of the village have been completely submerged� by the river Brahmaputra. The main dyke,� which was constructed recently at a cost of Rs 27 crore by the Water Resource department is�now under a serious threat by the erosion of the Brahmaputra. The local people alleged that flood protection measures�of Lahorighat and Bhuragaon revenue circles are inadequate for which people are facing severe hardships.�
