MORIGAON, June 29 - Erosion by the Brahmaputra in Bhuragaon and Lahorighat circles in Morigaon district took a serious turn on Friday rendering 68 families homeless, besides destroying crop fields in the affected areas. The affected areas of Bhuragaon circle are Dighaliati and Baralimari where 60 families have been evacuated.

It may be mentioned here that there is no protection dyke from Bhuragaon to Mayong along the bank of the Brahmaputra and there is every possibility of a catastrophe in the area.

On the other hand, erosion is also going on in Kathoni and Palauguri dyke in Lahorighat where no flood protection measure have been take up by the Water Resources department.
