Erosion posing threat to Hajo-Daulashal road

By Correspondent

NALBARI, July 12 Massive erosion by the Pagladia river has posed serious threat at various places in Nalbari district following improvement in the flood situation. The river eroded almost 90 per cent of the embankment on the left side at Bullitpar under Barkshetri Revenue Circle posing serious threat to the people of about 10 villages of that locality. If the river breaches the embankment at Bullitpar, the important Hajo-Daulashal road will be the worst affected and the road communication between Guwahati and Barpeta will be snapped. As the erosion is continuing alarmingly, the Mukalmua subdivisional office of Water Resources department took some initiatives to combat the massive erosion. The SDO, Mukalmua, Nikunja Sarma, who himself is monitoring the anti-erosion measures at Bullitpar said that the department erected bambo spurs, soil bags, boulder spurs to prevent the breach of the embankment.

The local people have demanded of the concerned authority to take permanent protection measures at the erosion spot. The Pagladia river also caused heavy erosion at Dhaniagog, Kamarkuchi and Khat-katara in the district. The river Brahmaputra is also posing a serious threat at Kaplabari under Barkshetri circle.

It may be mentioned here that Pagladia, Mora-Pagladia, Buhradia, Baralia and Nona rivers breached their embankments at 12 places in the district during the recent floods.
