JONAI, May 8 - Massive erosion by the River Brahmaputra during the past several months has posed a major threat to Kobu island.

It has eroded Kobu Birbol LP School established and upgraded under the Education Guarantee Scheme at Lower Kobu (Part-4). The area falls under Bahir-Sille panchayat in Jonai MSTD block. Located in between Lali and Brahmaputra rivers, about 10-km east from Jonai headquarters, Kobu Chapori island is a historic place as there was a helipad operated by the Chinese Aviation Corporation during pre-Independence period.

The Kobu Chapori area is still deprived of all means of modern communication facilities and infrastructure development, alleged villagers.
