Erosion continues unabated in Dhubri

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, June 14 - Erosion along the banks of the Brahmaputra at Mahamaya Ghat here intensified on Saturday night and washed away a few shops in the process.

The locals informed that the river bank erosion started on Saturday evening and continued till the wee hours of Sunday.

The area, it may be mentioned, is full of kiosks even as the area is used as a river port from where boats and ferries ply to different parts of Dhubri and South Salmara district.

While river bank erosion washed away a few shops, the other shopkeepers in the vicinity too as a protective measure removed all the goods from their shops before being similarly hit by erosion.

As erosion continues unabated, the locals are apprehensive that more land will fall to the swirling waters of the mighty Red River with alarming regularity.
