Eri cut-cocoons from Udalguri for Chattisgarh

UDALGURI, Dec 10 � Udalguri district has become a model district for silk production in the NE region. Eri cut-cocoons produced in the district are now being transported to Raipur in Chattisgarh and other parts of the country. It is to be noted that the Udalguri district Sericulture office has transported 14 metric tonnes of eri cut-cocoon to Raipur in the current month while it has laid stress on producing other quality products of mulberry and eri cocoons. This was informed by Harakanta Hazarika, Assistant Director of the Udalguri district Sericulture Department here at the sericulture office on Tuesday.

A Central Silk Board delegation visited the mulberry, eri and silk estates under the Udalguri Sericulture Office on Tuesday and appreciated the endeavour of the staff and officials of the office to make it meaningful for the farmers cultivating eri, mulberry and silk at the highest level. NS Bisse Gowda, chairman of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, on the occasion inaugurated a mulberry grange in a glittering function held on the occasion which was anchored by HK Hazarika, Assistant Director of the Udalguri district Sericulture department in the presence of RK Ramakrishnappa, MP Lakhikant, N Ramesh , BC Umesh Babu, RH Jayaram Reddy, Dr C Siva Reddy, scientist and all CSB members from Bangalore and Dr P Jayprakash, Scientist, D-MSSO, Guwahati Central Silk Board, Deven Boro, executive member of BTC, S Deori, Joint Secretary (technical), RO, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, RN Phukan, Director of Sericulture, Assam, Arun Basumatary, Deputy Secretary, Sericulture, BTC and J Deuri, Director of Sericulture, BTC.

The team of Central Silk Board led by the chairman also visited the Tokonkata Sericulture farm near Tangla and appreciated the initiatives taken up by the District Sericulture Department and hoped that Udalguri district would be marked soon as a good business hub for eri and mulberry products in the entire NE region and it would be known as the ideal production centre of eri and mulberry in the entire country.
