Environment Minister lays base of Biodiversity Park in Alokjhari PRF

DHUBRI, Nov 28 - Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidiya laid the foundation stone of a biodiversity park �Sahitya Manishi Upaban� at Alokjhari Proposed Reserve Forest under Dhubri Forest Division on Friday.

The biodiversity park aimed at conservation and preservation of various species of plants will be developed under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) Scheme and will be spread over a three hectare area at Alokjhari Proposed Reserve Forest and at a cost of Rs 23,79,878 sanctioned by the state.

The Minister also participated in a plantation drive along with Golokganj MLA Aswini Sarkar, Dhubri DFO Vijay Palvey. �We are starting this project with one thousand different species of medicinal, fruit and flower plants and these species will increase with years. Here these plants will be conserved so that they can be used for study purposes for future generations� said Suklabaidya.

He added that this is a step towards conservation and preservation of the natural beauty of Dhubri district and added that the Forest Department will look after the Biodiversity Park for five years.

PCCF AM Singh, CAMPA CCF S Singh,CCFT, Lower Assam Zone, Akash Deep Baruah, MLA of Bilasipar East Ashok Singhi, DC Anant Lal Gyani and Dhubri BJP president Debamoy Sanyal was also present in the ceremony, which was followed by a meeting with the local people.
