Entry to East, West Karbi Anglong districts restricted

DIPHU, April 4 - Moments after the news came that three persons from Jagiroad, identified as Hajrat Ali (60), Md Nuruddin (55) and Md Jonab Ali (46), had tested positive for novel coronavirus, the incharge officer of Ulukunchi Police Station Haren Hazarika sealed the gate at Auguri, the gateway to Amri and Chinthong localities of West Karbi Anglong from Morigaon district on Wednesday evening. Auguri is just 17 kilometres from Jagiroad.

Fearing the spread of the dreaded virus, locals of Amri, Chinthong and Duar Amla have requested Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority to send a medical team to Auguri and Borgaon check gates to prevent the entry of infected people. The Police of Ulukunchi outpost has been kept in red alert to deal with any eventuality.

As a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Karbi Anglong district administration through a official notification has prohibited entry of all types of vehicles carrying goods and passengers, essential commodities like food items, vegetables and medical supplies from entering the district of Karbi Anglong through all entry points in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts for an indefinite period.

However, the authority has kept a leeway. The Additional District Magistrate, Karbi Anglong district Rajeshan Terang has been authorised to issue permit or pass to officials on emergency duties and to the public for obvious reasons.

Altogether, 29 migrant workers from Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts working at various places of Nagaland like Kohima, Dimapur etc., have been quarantined in Dimapur stadium. Among the workers, 23 are from Karbi Anglong while nine are from Dima Hasao district who were engaged in construction work in Kohima. The labourers walked nearly 71 kilometres to reach Dimapur.

The Village Defence Party of Thesobil, within Kheroni Police Station of West Karbi Anglong district has put up road blockades to stop vehicles and strangers from entering their villages.
