SHILLONG, Feb 28 - Stressing the importance of entrepreneurship in changing the economic and job scenario in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that his Government is attempting to link science and technology with entrepreneurship.
Sangma was speaking as the chief guest of the two-day North East Innovators Meet and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneur Expo, 2019, at the Convocation Hall of the NEHU here.
As far as economic and job scenario in our State is concerned, people still look for government jobs. We need to look into the demographic change that has been happening in the State. Entrepreneurship is the keyword that can bring about a difference in this aspect, he said. Even though people are coming up with innovative ideas, they are unable to push them forward, he observed.
Entrepreneurship needs to become a culture and we need to push it forward to a greater height. Expos like this will provide the much needed platform to entrepreneurs and innovators and will also give them the opportunity to connect and interact with fellow entrepreneurs, experts, suppliers and buyers, he said.
The Chief Minister urged the younger generation to look for opportunities and make the most of them.
Earlier, Sangma visited the stalls put up at the venue, accompanied by other dignitaries.
The main objective of the event is to provide a platform to innovators, especially from Meghalaya, to showcase their innovation, strengthen entrepreneurship skills and partnership through networking, identify technologies suitable for the State and create awareness about entrepreneur skills among the youth of the State. Various scientific activities like thematic lectures, open quiz and innovative idea competition among school students, interactions among scientists, innovators and school students, etc., were held on the occasion.
