Entrepreneur on mission to promote cane and bamboo

GUWAHATI, Oct 18 - Have you ever thought that the wooden furniture you very often considered as your prized possession might actually be emitting toxic compound?

Now, if you are looking for an answer to it, you need not go too far! The answer lies in cane and bamboo, which grow in abundance in the north-eastern region.

In fact, Guwahati-based entrepreneur SM Sarma Bordoloi has embarked on a relatively new mission to promote a sustainable lifestyle through optimum use of cane and bamboo products under its brand �Boocane�.

Bordoloi�s startup venture � Ivantage Craft Private Limited � which is opening a new leaf in sustainable innovations, is now fast becoming a household brand not just in India but also in foreign market, which it trying to penetrate further.

�Not enough research has been done in understanding the utility of cane and bamboo, which have so much potential not just as a raw material for products, but also in our fight against climate change. Both bamboo and cane are highly renewable resources and are strategic resources for climate change mitigation,� Bordoloi said.

Ivantage Craft Private Limited, registered under the startup India campaign of the department for promotion of industry and internal trade in 2018, is currently sourcing its raw materials from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Using cane and bamboo as its primary resources to produce a unique line of bamboo fabric and home utility brands, the city-based startup had started its commercial production in its factory located in Tezpur.

�As part of our expansion plan, we are planning to set up such outlets in other parts of the country including Bengaluru. The wide range of products would definitely give the clientele their money�s worth,� Bordoloi added.
