Enraged people stall OIL works

TINSUKIA, Feb 22 � All the works of the Oil India Limited in Barekuri area of Tinsukia district was stalled for an indefinite period by the local people in protest against the non-addressal of local issues by the OIL authorities. The issues agitating the minds of the people include laying of pipelines through the Maguri-Na Motapung Beel, not taking of steps for preventing air and sound pollution, non-employment of youths from Barekuri area, financial aid not provided to the SHGs of the area etc.

More than 3000 people, mostly youths came to Oil India Ltd. office at Jagyakhowa, 4 kilometres from here and staged a dharna. They have stalled all the works of the oil installation station and announced that the works would be stopped indefinitely till their demands are fulfilled. Many organisations like Baghjan Milanjyoti Yubak Sangha, Dibru River Environment Conservation Society, All Assam Moran Students� Union, Barekuri Mahila Samity, Moran Mahila Parishad among others are taking part in the protest.
