Engti lays base of community hall

DIPHU, July 27 � Kharsing Engti, Minister for Hills Areas Development, Government of Assam, formally laid the foundation stones of a community hall and a market shed at the Baligaon market complex near Howraghat town here on Sunday.

While speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Premala Beypi, local MAC and EM, Social Welfare Department, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), said that the community hall will be constructed with an estimated Rs 8 lakh under a 13th Finance Commission grant. The market shed, on the other hand, will be constructed by the Department of Agriculture marketing division with a similar estimated amount, Beypi added.

While interacting with the people taking part in the function, Engti asked the contractors entrusted with the construction works to complete the infrastructure works within a specific time-frame. Full public cooperation will be necessary for proper monitoring of the construction works, he said, adding said that people must not compromise with development in any cost. Seeking public support, Engti assured of providing the maximum assistance from the State government. He exhorted all sections of people to come forward and join the government in the capacity building initiatives and activities aimed at positive social changes in the State in general and in the district in particular.

The Agriculture EM of KAAC Mangal Sing Timung, chairman of the Howraghat Town Committee Deori Lekthe and ward commissioner Sarjeng Engti were also present on the occasion.
