GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - Neo Vaishnavite saint-poet-playwright Madhabdevas plays, translated into English with a 72-page introduction by Prof Dayananda Pathak, was released by noted litterateur and an exponent of the Sankari culture Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora at a function held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on August 27, said a press release today.

The translated version titled Madhabdeva and His Plays, is published by CBS Books and Chandra Prakash.

Releasing the English version of Madhabdevas plays, Dr Bora said, Prof Pathaks translation of Madhabdevas plays into English must be appreciated as a monumental work for the people of Assam. The plays in the Vrajavali version had proved to be inaccessible for the new generation of readers. That problem of inaccessibility is now being resolved by Prof Dayananda Pathak. People will also find a true picture of the saint in the 72-page introduction to the book.

Chief guest Kanak Sen Deka also appreciated the translatorial effort of Prof Pathak. He said, The people of Assam will get an opportunity to read the plays of Madhabdeva without any difficulty. Besides, translation into other world languages will now be easier.

The meeting was chaired by Surjya Hazarika, vice president of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. He lauded Prof Pathak for his efforts in taking the writings of the saints to the global arena.
