TEZPUR, June 6 � In what may be described as an important development, Tezpur University has completed the English translation of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Rachanawali (the writings of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha). The final volumes of the translation were handed over to the family of the Kalaguru at a function held at the council hall of the university on June 4.
The translation was carried out in two parts � the first part consisting of Rabha�s literary works including his fiction, lyrics, poems and songs and the second part comprising his historical and political writings. The first part was handed over to the family of the Kalaguru on September 29, 2014.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor, Prof Mihir K Chaudhuri described the completion of the work as a historic event, which will enable the writings of this great personality gain a much wider readership. Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor welcomed the family members of the Kalaguru and other guests to the historic occasion and hoped that this would herald a new era in carrying the ideals of Kalaguru to an international audience.
On behalf of the editors, Prof MM Sarma thanked the family of Rabha for reposing faith in the University and the editors of the translated volumes. He also conveyed that the editorial board would be happy to go ahead with the publication of the two translated works, once the consent of the family was obtained.
It may be mentionioned here that a group of experts comprising Prof Madan Mohan Sharma, Dr Debarshi Prasad Nath, Dr Gautam Bora and Prof Pradip Jyoti Mahanta edited the volumes while Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury guided the project under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor. On behalf of the Kalaguru�s family, his son Prithiraj Rabha received the translated manuscript. Lauding the efforts of Tezpur University in accomplishing the work, Rabha described the translation as a rare achievement on his father�s works.
