Encounter in Garo Hills

By Correspondent

TURA, March 14 The South Garo Hills police today carried out an operation against the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in remote Rewak, about 160 km from Tura.

The early morning encounter though did not lead to any casualties on either side, local and police sources claimed few cadres of the outfit were injured in the police gunfire.

The raid was on the same group of GNLA militants that had ambushed the police patrol earlier this week, resulting in the death of four policemen.

The police had been tracking these cadres that were responsible for the killing of the four policemen and we had information of their presence near Rewak. The police team was spotted by the militant sentries on duty and as we engaged them, the rest managed to escape, said SP South Garo Hills Lakador Syiem.
