Encephalitis claims 11 lives in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT, Aug 2 � Encephalitis has claimed 11 lives in different areas of Golaghat district.

A fear psychosis has been prevailing among the people of the different areas of the district as this dreaded disease has taken an epidemic form in the entire State.

The persons who died of encephalitis include Dandadhar Dutta (60) of Bokiyal Buragohain Khat under Morongi Mouza, Silbista Samod (11) of Kanni village, Puja Sahu (9) of Doigurung Parbatipur, Papu Bauri (8) of Dengaon Negheriting, Pradip Borthakur (66) of Dengaon, Amrit Bhuyan (13) of Hautali TE, Moina Begum (9) of Dakhinhengeru, Muskan Mirdha (5) of Rongagora TE, Minabati Munda (8) of Lakhijan Bokakhat, Dulal Bora (6) of Nawjan and Benu Hazarika (75) of Kamargaon Bordihingia, Bokakhat.

More than 18 patients suffering from the encephalitis are undergoing treatment at the KK Civil Hospital, Golaghat, the medical department sources said.

The people of the urban and rural areas of the Golaghat district had alleged that the Health department of Golaghat KK Civil Hospital has failed to take viable measures against the erradication of the disease. Due to non-appointment of doctors, nurses, the Health department has failed to take proper steps in the treatment.

The people have demanded of the Health department and the authority of the KK Civil hospital to start providing DDT arrangement of fogging and to provide medicines immediately.
