GUWAHATI, April 17 � Eminent scholar, educationist, critic and author Prabodh Chandra Goswami passed away at his son�s residence at Six Mile area today following protracted illness. He was 97.
Goswami had a distinguished career as teacher and served in a number of educational institutions before joining the Mangaldoi College as principal. He taught at the Indira Gandhi Open University, Assam Agriculture College, St Edmund�s BT College, Shillong, Nalbari College, Nalbari Gurdon High School, Dhubri Govt. High School, etc.
Born on November 9, 1914 to an illustrious family, Goswami was the son of Pandit Pratap Chandra Goswami and nephew of litterateur Sarat Chandra Goswami. He did his MA from Dacca University (now in Bangladesh) and devoted his life to teaching and writing.
An accomplished author, Goswami wrote about 20 books encompassing a wide range of subjects including economics, education, literary criticism and fiction. Some of his books are Kalakarar Kalakaushal aru Sadhana, Asomiya Kavitar Alochona, Adhunik Asomiya Kavita, Judhottarar Parikalpana aru Asom, Life, Democracy and Education, Rashtriya Samasya aru Jatiya Sanghati, Bakul Jetia Sore, and Galpottar. He also contributed over a thousand articles to various newspapers and journals.
Goswami was associated with The Assam Tribune as a correspondent of Nalbari for over a decade, and was also the founder president of North Kamrup Journalist Association. He was the president of the Assam College Principals� Council besides being a member of the Arts faculty of the Academic Council, Court and Language Committee of Gauhati University. He leaves behind his wife, four sons and a daughter besides a host of relatives, admirers and well-wishers.
Goswami�s last rites were performed at the Navagraha crematorium today.
