NALBARI, Sept 28 - Flood waters of Kanaikhunda river washed away the newly-constructed embankment of the river at Purni village near Chamata in Nalbari district at around 4.30 am on Thursday morning.
Nadla, Purni, Gamarimuri, Sahpur and Napara villages were submerged. According to sources, the Water Resources Department had constructed the embankment at a cost of Rs 2 crore. People alleged that inferior quality of construction had resulted in the breach of the dyke. On the other hand, the executive engineer of the Department Pratul Patowary alleged that the embankment was cut by miscreants. An FIR was also lodged at the police station in this regard. The DC Sanjib Kumar Das also visited the site of the breach and has ordered an inquiry.
