GUWAHATI, May 19 - In view of the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent socio-economic situation across the State along with the rest of the country, Ellora Vigyan Mancha, a non-governmental organisation promoting scientific temperament, has urged its members and supporters to work on increasing scientific temperament among the people on COVID-related issues, while observing the norms of social distancing.

A scientific temperament and medical expertise are the way forward to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, while sanitization and social distancing are the key to the COVID protocol, the Mancha said, reiterating its commitment to enhance awareness among the masses.

The Mancha, which completed 17 years of its existence on May 15, has also urged the common masses to try to help the lesser privileged people in this hour of crisis.

The foundation day of Ellora Vigyan Mancha was observed at several places of the State following all the lockdown rules. In the programme held in Guwahati, flag hoisting was done by the Manchas vice president and artist Kiran Shankar in the organisations central office in Hedayatpur. Floral tributes were paid to the late Ellora Roychoudhury, after whom the organization has been named.

The Mancha posted the speeches of a number of eminent scientists and public activists on its social media channels to promote scientific temperament.

Its high time people stayed away from superstitions, hoaxes and unscientific experiments on the cure of novel coronavirus. No sound wave or the incense stick can keep the infection away unless people follow the social distancing norms properly with adequate emphasis on proper sanitisation. We have urged our members to make more and more people aware about various myths and facts of the pandemic and the WHO guidelines, said Isfaqur Rahman of the Mancha.
