Elephant calf dies at Biswanath TE

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 22 - An elephant calf died in a tea garden on Thursday evening while it fell into a ditch after straying out of its herd at Kherbari under Gingia PS in Biswanath district.

According to information, a herd of around 50 elephants has been roaming in and around Monabari Tea Estate in Biswanath district for the last couple of days and a baby elephant got reportedly separated from the herd and fell into a ditch in the tea garden. The herd has reportedly come from the Kaziranga National Park crossing the Brahmaputra river. Getting information, a team of Forest officials and Veterinary doctors rushed to the spot and provided medical treatment to the elephant calf, but it succumbed to its injuries.
