Electronic Media retain cricket title

GUWAHATI, March 3 - It was three in a row for the Electronic Media team as they went on to win the third edition of the Star Cement Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) Media T20 Cricket Tournament with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory against Media Management in the final.

Opting to bat first, the Media Management team put up a fighting total of 141 losing six wickets in 20 overs. Jagjit Singh was their top scorer with 30 while Manjit Sarma, Anupam Mahanta and Parthiv Hazarika added 28, 26 and 25 runs respectively. Dhruba Kalita took three wickets while Rabin Das scalped two wickets.

The target was not tough for the winning team as Rabin Das made it a completely one sided affair with 74 off 42 balls. Kishore Talukdar (24) and Pranab Das (23) were the other useful contributors. They reached the target in 15.1 overs.

Rabin Das was given the man-of-the-final award and best bowler award while Jagjit Singh received the man-of-the-tournament. Tauhid Ali Talukdar of ASJA (best batsmen), Satyajit Suklabaidya of Barak Valley (best wicket keeper) and Subhash Basfor of Electronic Media (best fielder) were the other individual award winners.

In the closing function, anchored by ASJA secretary Bidyut Kalita, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, Pradip Hazarika; chief editor of Dainik Purvoday Rabi Shankar Rabi; State boxing body secretary Hemanta Kr Kalita and senior journalist Subodh Malla Baruah gave away the prizes. The championship was sponsored by Star Cement along with Coca Cola, Surya Gold Cement, Dalmia Cement, Annapurna among others.
