Electrification remains a distant dream for people of Dhubri village

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Oct 27 - At a time when the government is claiming that all the rural households in the State have been electrified under Saubhagya scheme, the inhabitants of Chalakura Poyestirchar claim that their village is yet to get electricity.

In a public complaint to the Deputy Commissioner recently, the inhabitants of the village stated that the government commissioned a solar project at the village for its all-round development at the end of 2017 but the contractor concerned has not implemented the project. The villagers also alleged that the contractor misappropriated the government fund.

It was informed that eight solar projects were undertaken at 10 villages in the Majerchar Chalakura area but till now only two projects have been completed so far.

Except a few rich villagers, who can afford personal non-grid solar panels, the entire village remains in darkness, said Joynal Abedin, an advocate from the village, adding, we have been deprived by the government for years.

He added that the villagers have approached the contractor concerned of the project and also the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner several times to finish the project on time but they paid no heed to our requests.

The contractor concerned denied to do any work further and the project has been lying half done for many months now, Abedin said.
