Electioneering hots up in Dima Hasao

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, April 24 As the election to the 11th Dima Hasao Autonomous Council is nearing, the poll environment has warmed up with the filing of nomination papers by as many as 30 candidates of different parties from different constituencies on Wednesday.

This time, the elections are considered unprecedented since the leaders from rebel groups DHD(J) and DHD are taking part in the democratic system after signing of historic agreements. Today, former rebel leader Dilip Nunisa filed his nomination from Diyungmukh under the banner of Dima Hasao Dal. Niranjan Hojai of DHD(J) also filed his papers from the same constituency as an independent candidate. Former DHD(J) chief Jewel Garlosa alias Mihir Garlosa filed his nomination from Kalachand as an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, former ASDC president Rathindra Thaosen and Monjit Karigapsa filed their papers from Langting and Wajao constituencies respectively as Hill State Democratic Party candidates. Thaisodao Thaosen has filed his nomination from Hajadisa as Dima Hasao Dal candidate.

While the Congress has not finalised its candidates, those from BJP are expected to file nominations tomorrow.
