Election observer visits critical polling stations

DHEMAJI, April 4 - General Election Observer for 14-Lakhimpur HPC, Surya Mani Lalchand accompanied by Jonai Election Officer Pranjal Baruah on Thursday visited critical polling stations of 114-Jonai LAC in Dhemaji district.

The Observer during his visit assured to provide minimum facilities such as road accessibility, water and power supply in the polling stations during the Lok Sabha election. As such, he also visited three polling stations at Bahir-Sille, Mohmara and Gali Borbali in Jonai LAC, which election department has identified as �critical�.

He also inspected the Strong Room, Issue Receipt Counter and waiting shed for polling personnel besides examining functions of the EVM and VVPAT machines kept ready for the poll.

The observers earlier held a meeting with Expenditure Observer Dr Sunil N Ranote, Election Officers and Micro Observers at Jonai and instructed the officials to ensure strict adherence to the election commission guidelines. He informed that the Election Commission has specified 12 documents, including Voter ID Card, Smart Card, MGNREGA Job Card, Driving License etc for identity proof of the voter/electors, said that they must produce either any one of the documents or service Identity Card at the time of vote casting.

Jonai Assistant Commissioner Gayatri Patir, who is looking after Media Cell of election department, informed that the sub-divisional administration has completed all preparatory works for smooth conduct of the ensuing poll. The department has set up a �woman polling station� at Jonai HS School and also designed Silapthar Don Bosco HS polling Station as �Model Polling Station�.

More than 1,540 polling personnel, including the presiding officers have been engaged to conduct the polling in 350 polling stations fall under Jonai sub-division spreading in seven zones and 29 sectors, according to election department.
