Hailakandi, March 13: A show cause notice for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been served on an Independent candidate in Hailakandi.
The show cause notice was issued by the District Development Commissioner cum Officer Incharge of MCC and EEM Cell, Ranajeet Kumar Laskar here on Friday on Independent candidate Badrul Islam Barbhuiya from Algapur legislative assembly constituency for violating MCC norms.
Barbhuiya while on his way to the Deputy Commissioner's office to file nomination on Friday organised a political rally in which large number of vehicles were taken out near Janeki Bazar area under 8 Algapur LAC without obtaining prior permission from the appropriate authorities thus grossly violating the MCC already in force since February 26.
It has been reported that banners were on display, pamphlets distributed and loud loudspeakers used in the rally. The election official while serving the show cause on Barbhuiya questioned as to why action should not be taken against him as per law for violation of MCC guidelines.
