Elders felicitated

GUWAHATI, Jan 6 - To acknowledge their valuable contributions to the society in their respective fields, eminent writer and educationist Kumudeshwar Hazarika and journalist and social activist Upen Sarma were felicitated at their residences by the Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) today.

A known chronicler of Guwahati, Kumudeswar Hazarika has penned many untold stories of Guwahati, preserving the tales of the golden days of the historic city for posterity through his books.

�Also a vice president of the SGBG, Hazarika was felicitated for his work, at his residence at Guwahati Club, Laxmi Service area. Along with the citation, the SGBG also extended a nominal cash amount for his treatment,� Ajoy Dutta, SGBG vice president, told The Assam Tribune.

Former SGBG president and GMDA Chairman Dhiren Baruah appealed both the government and the people of the State and Guwahati to come forward to support both the veteran members of the society, especially for their treatment.

Veteran journalist Upen Sarma, also a founder member of the SGBG, was felicitated at his Palash Path, Senduri Ali residence. Cash assistance was also extended to him. A socialist leader, activist and also a sports person, Sarma has been a socially active person.

The SGBG also appealed to the State government to bear the medical expenses of both Hazarika and Sarma.
